 During operation, the PU is taken past the MIUs (either walk-by or drive-by) and during this drive by it collects the meter readings using a wireless link to the MIUs. These records are stored in the PU memory, and later can be transferred to the PC station over an USB interface.
 The system does not require any repeater stations, since the PU will be driven past each MIU for reading the meters.
